What is your earliest memory of classical music?
One of my early memories of classical music is when I would listen to recordings with my grandfather who loved classical music. My earliest memories also come from attending live concerts and being surrounded by music at the Kaufman Music Center and Special Music School in NYC.
Was there a teacher who was particularly impactful/helpful? What made this instructor stand out?
My teacher whom I studied with during pre-college, Bela Horvath, continues to be my mentor today. His violin playing, teaching style and way of imparting knowledge really inspired me and greatly influenced me and my playing. My current teacher who I studied with at Bard, Mira Wang, has also pushed me and supported me to develop into the musician I am today.
How did you hear about TŌN? What inspired you to apply?
I was a substitute in TŌN while I was a master’s student at Bard. I have been drawn to TŌN’s mission to engage listeners and present orchestral music within its context and through themes for every concert.
How would you like to see orchestra concerts evolve in the future?
I’d like to see orchestra concerts be more accessible for anyone to attend and to have a multitude of ways of engaging all listeners.
