Pacho Flores

Multi-award-winning Venezuelan trumpeter Pacho Flores is a first-prize winner of the Maurice André International Trumpet Competition, Philip Jones International Competition, and the Cittá di Porcia International contest, in addition to being awarded a gold medal by the Global Music Awards for his album Entropía. His most recent recording for Deutsche Grammophon, Estirpe (2022), was nominated in three categories at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards, and his recording of Paquito D’Rivera’s “Concerto Venezolano” was awarded Best Classical Composition.

In summer 2025, Mr. Flores made his debut at the BBC Proms with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by chief conductor Domingo Hindoyan. Following his season-long residency with the orchestra in the 2022–23 season, Flores and Hindoyan were branded “The Dream Team”. Further highlights in the 2025–26 season include performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl (Gemma New), Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (Giancarlo Guerrero), Detroit Symphony Orchestra (Jader Bignamini), Philharmonia (Rafael Payare), and tours with the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France (Dina Gilbert) and Sinfónica de Minería (Carlos Miguel Prieto).

Trained in the ground-breaking El Sistema music education program in Venezuela, Mr. Flores is equally at home across many musical genres and is an advocate for new commissions. Recent premieres include works by composers Efraín Oscher, Giancarlo Castro, Santiago Báez, Hilda Paredes, Christian Lindberg, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Márquez, Roberto Sierra, Gabriela Ortiz, and Daniel Freiberg. He is also a founding member of the Simón Bolívar Brass Quintet and former principal trumpet of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He is dedicated to fostering the next generation of trumpet players, and is founding director of the Latin-American Trumpet Academy in Venezuela.

Mr. Flores is a Stomvi artist, performing exclusively on instruments that have been developed and built for his performances. He records exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon and his discography includes Cantar with Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin and Christian Vásquez; Entropía, which received a gold medal at the Global Music Awards; Fractales with Arctic Philharmonic and Christian Lindberg; and the double CD-DVD Cantos y Revueltas with Real Filharmonía de Galicia and Manuel Hernández-Silva. His latest album, Estirpe with Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería and Carlos Miguel Prieto, was nominated in three categories at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards.
